Rochester Farmers Market
Rochester’s oldest growers-only market fills Graham Park every Saturday morning, rain or shine. Load up on just-picked produce, baked goods and handmade crafts, then stick around for free community exercise classes and live local music. Parking is free and easy.

Southern Minnesota’s largest art, food and music street festival takes over downtown on July 9, 16, 23 and 30. Browse 50-plus artisan booths, graze 50-plus food and drink vendors, and enjoy live music all day. Note that there is no market on July 2 during the holiday week.

Pack a blanket and head to Mayo Park behind the Mayo Civic Center for free Sunday-evening concerts on July 12, 19 and 26. Food trucks roll in around 6 PM, opening acts start at 7 PM and headliners take the stage at 8 PM.

Catch America’s pastime under the lights at historic Mayo Field, where the Honkers play Northwoods League collegiate summer baseball all month long. Food trucks set up before every home game and live music plays before most. It is an affordable, family-friendly Rochester tradition.

Rochester’s craft scene keeps the music going all week. Forager Brewery hosts live acts up to five nights a week, Kinney Creek features bands on Saturdays, Little Thistle runs a Sunday matinee series and Thesis Beer Project books monthly residencies. Restaurants like Bleu Duck Kitchen, The Redwood Room and Taco JED add even more.

Independence Day Fireworks
Cap off the Fourth with the city’s free fireworks display over Soldiers Field, sponsored by the Office of the Mayor. Bring chairs, blankets and snacks, and arrive early for parking. Please leave grills and pets at home. If weather interferes, the show may move to July 5.

New this year, the Rochester Community Band presents a free Independence Day celebration concert at Cascade Lake Park. It is a relaxed, all-ages way to soak up some hometown patriotism before the evening fireworks. The performance time and program will be announced closer to the date.

The Rochester Chess Festival returns to the Mayo Civic Center with the USCF-rated Rochester Open and the Midwest Women & Girls Championship, including sections for total beginners. Friday, July 10 at 7 PM kicks things off with a tandem simultaneous exhibition against visiting International Masters.

One of the summer’s best ballpark nights: the first 500 fans through the gates receive an official Honker Hanky, and everyone is invited to stay for a postgame fireworks show. Grab a bite from the featured food truck and enjoy live music before first pitch.

The Rochester Public Library brings a special outdoor storytime to the pavilion at Quarry Hill Nature Center. It is a free, 30-minute, kid-friendly start to a Saturday morning, with miles of trails and a hands-on nature center to explore afterward.

History Center of Olmsted County
Dig into local history at the History Center, with exhibits tracing Olmsted County from its earliest days to the rise of Mayo Clinic, plus tours of the historic Mayowood Mansion built in 1910 by Dr. Charlie and Edith Mayo. Family programs and summer activities run throughout July.

This 329-acre park is a Rochester favorite, with paved and dirt trails, a fishing pond, a sandstone cave carved back in 1882 and an Exploration Hall full of live animals and a 1,700-gallon aquarium. Admission is free, though the nature center is closed July 4.
